Treatments Available at our Clinic

The following holistic techniques may be incorporated into your care plan to maximise your return to health at our clinics. The use of the therapies varies relative to whom you consult at the clinics, either myself or one of my colleagues, but you may be referred between us if a technique is necessary but your chiropractor does not use this approach.

Chiropractic Treatment

The medicinal system that treats back pain, structural pain and other health disorders caused by a misalignment of the bony joints, especially in the spine, that obstructs proper nerve function.

As above, our form of chiropractic is special as we practice traditionally but also use other forms of chiropractic and complementary medicine. With the natural health clinic we also have the ability to refer to professionals we can trust if a difficult case needs a change of direction. This way you don't just become a back or neck that constantly needs the same manipulation every week or month. We want to make long term differences in our patients rather than symptomatic treatment every time. We therefore cater well for chronic patients who need a multifaceted approach to their healthcare.

Traditional chiropractic treatment is aimed at restoring normal function to these stiff and irritated joints and their tight muscles and nerves. Originally this was offered as a 'health system' for all ills but has now become a speciality of care for lower back pain (LBP) primarily. Chiropractic is now one of the most efficient and cost effective ways to treat LBP. By mixing chiropractic and complementary medicine we believe we can achieve better results for you.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a system of healing developed on China and the Far East, which has been used for at least two thousand years. It involves the insertion of sterile needles through the skin. It may also involve the use of gentle massage or acupressure; warming with the herb moxa and the application of cups to areas of pain. It is often used to relieve musculo-skeletal pain and arthritic disorders but can also be used in a wide range of other complaints: hormonal problems (incluing menstrual and menopausal problems), headaches and migraine, digestive disorders and depression to name but a few.

Treatment is tailored to each individual's needs. It is often used to keep patients well and to keep symptoms at bay. It may also be used to maintain a sense of health and well-being. Most patients find the treatments both relaxing and revitalising. It can be safely used on all ages and populations.

Bowen Technique

A gentle form of bodywork in which very subtle moves performed over the muscles and connective tissue send messages deep into the body, retrieving cellular memory of a relaxed, balanced way of well-being. Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a therapeutic system which has been used for over 200 years.

It works on the principle that 'like treats like'. An illness is treated with a medicine which could produce similar symptoms in a healthy person. The active ingredients are given in highly diluted form to avoid toxicity, and the remedies are virtually 100% safe.

Homeopathy is successful in treating a wide range of conditions, often after conventional medicine has failed. Homeopathic doctors use history-taking, examination and investigation, just as all doctors do.

Prescribing is based on all aspects of a patients's condition. The patient's personality and lifestyle are important. Homeopathy integrates well with conventional medicine.

Hypnotherapy

The technique for achieving deep relaxation and enabling the subconscious part of the mind to express itself and receive messages in order to bring about change in feelings and actions.

Gentle voice control induces a state of mental and physical relaxation. The conscious mind goes into neutral and the subconscious comes to the fore. You will be aware at all times and your senses might even become more acute than normal. You will find you are able to talk easily whilst in hypnosis. Children can benefit from hypnotherapy from the age of about 10.

Hypnotherapy can be used to treat: addictions, poor self-confidence, stress related disorders, phobia, eating disorders, allergies, bed wetting, habits and memory.

Massage

Rubbing of the body: a treatment that involves rubbing or kneading the muscles, either for medical or therapeutic purposes or simply as an aid to relaxation.

The techniques offered at this clinic are:

  1. Therapeutic (remedial) massage is a deep massage to erase muscle stiffness and stimulate circulation.
  2. Indian head massage works on the upper body and is good for headaches and blocked sinuses.
  3. Reflexology is a form of massage in which pressure is applied to certain parts of the feet and hands in order to promote relaxation and healing elsewhere in the body.
  4. Aromatherapy massage uses the essential oils extracted from parts of plants or trees for deep relaxation and healing.
  5. Sports massage to focus on specific parts of the body to promote tissue healing.

Nutrition Therapy

The use of food and supplements to cure and prevent disease. A wide range of everyday ailments can successfully be treated with nutrition therapy, including:

  • Asthma and allergies
  • IBS and bloating
  • Migraines
  • Mood swings
  • High cholesterol
  • Fatigue
  • Indigestion
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Skin disorders

Sports Injury Treatment

Specific treatment using manual techniques along with additional equipment such as ultrasound to help the body to heal itself f from both long and short term injuries, such as:

  • Joint, ligament, tendon and muscle injuries
  • Stress fractures
  • Frozen shoulder
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Headache

Rejuvenescence (Natural Face Lifting)

Rejuvenescence is an exceptionally relaxing therapy that is very effective as a natural alternative to Botox / surgical facelifts making you look and feel years younger. Precise feather light massage removes tension trapped in the facial muscles, improving oxygen, blood flow, lymph drainage, stimulating collagen. This technique gradually redefines the cheek and jaw, smoothes wrinkles and promotes deep relaxation making the face look years younger and the person feel better, with more energy. Rejuvenescence is also excellent for a variety of problems around the face. Eye problems, headaches, grinding teeth, bell's palsy, menieres disease, acne, etc. have all been helped by Rejuvenescence.

Sacro-Occipital Technique (SOT)

This is a non-force whole body treatment focusing on the pelvis as the primary fault/distortion leading to changes elsewhere in the spine and skull. SOT 'blocks' and reflex points (similar to reflexology) are used to stimulate the body to release injury and distortion in the body.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST)

Excellent with babies and adults. This gentle technique relaxes tension in the soft tissues and is a wonderfully relaxing non-force therapy. It specially fits with chiropractic which emphasises moving bones.

Dry Needling

Helps speed the release of deep muscle tension.

Applied Kinesiology

This is an exceptional clinical technique which uses muscle testing to show how the nervous system has adapted to injury and what is needed on a more subtle level to enhance healing or to understand the mechanism of injury.

Paediatric Chiropractic

Treatment of newborn, infants, toddlers and children of all ages. Injuries in the spine from birth have significant effect on the nervous system and are thought to create reversible health problems, such as: poor or heavy sucking, irritable babies, poor head posture or comfort sleeping, COLIC, choking, recurrent chest infections, hyper/hypo-tonia, glue ear, strabismus.

Stress awareness

How emotions drive physical patterns: all stress creates a 'fight or flight' response and our lack of reaction in modern society locks change in our body that should have naturally been released. This excites areas of our nervous or muscular system leading to an overproduction of chemicals or tension and eventually leading to breakdown of that system.
